Branded Spirit

Branded Spirit is the product of a dream of a local country boy who just loved music. Dwayne Meadows, the son of a Southwest Georgia preacher, could always feel music pumping through his veins. Being raised in a little country church on country hymns, Dwayne felt the desire to play music as a teenager. He purchased his first guitar which not only showed his talent for playing but the beginnings of a singer/songwriter.

Enjoying the Southern Rock era, he moved on to the country music field, writing and performing his original country songs with local bands and in local clubs. As time passed, he felt the need to use his talent writing uplifting and encouraging Christian music -- songs with a message that came thru the guidance of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The original band was a two man band called “AltarBound” with the production of “GOD’s Country” as their first CD. As things changed and time passed, the band name changed to Branded Spirit. The band which has grown to five members continues to perform only original music written by members of the band.

Branded Spirit is based out of Cairo, Georgia and performs regularly at local festivals, churches and fundraisers. Branded Spirit has performed for the last 5 years at Mule Day in Calvary, Georgia (one of the largest festivals in the Southeastern United States with an attendance of around 80,000). Other performances include Wild Adventures Theme Park in Valdosta, Georgia.

Branded Spirit is an original style of "Southern Christian Music". Their music includes different styles of music…something for everyone. You'll hear a little bluegrass, some country, southern rock, and some heavy rock with the distortion on the guitars cranked up a little bit. The songs are about everyday life through the eyes of Christian songwriters.

Band Members

Dwayne Meadows, the only original band member, is a vocalist in the band. He plays the guitar and harmonica. He continues to write songs offering hope to a world struggling in the search for peace in their lives.

Laid back and easy going, Ronnie Avery plays lead guitar and vocalist. Ronnie has played guitar since a young age. His songs include songs of encouragement thru everyday life experiences.

Jamie Lewis is the drummer and percussionist. He is also a songwriter with a passion for playing drums and practicing long hours.

Tim Merchant plays keyboard and does a great job with backup vocals. Like all the other band members, Tim became involved in music during his childhood in small country churches.

Jim Spangler plays the bass guitar. Christian music being his passion, he also enjoys striking up a little “blues/jazz” music during practice.
