Bob Dalton

Bob Dalton

Bob Dalton was born Robert E. Lee Dalton, in Itman, West (by cracky) Virginia, in 1938. The family moved to the little town of Brenton, which, at that time was called "Bartley", in Wyoming County. Around 1953, the move was made to Marianna, just about a mile and a half up the road, and that was home until Bob left to go out on his own in 1956, after graduating from Baileysville High School.

The song, "Mama Call me Home" put Bob in the Top 100 on the national charts in 1970. His own compositions, "Blue Skies, Sunshine, My Rain", "Tunnel Number Two", and "Happy Birthday Son" were recorded in the same year. "Tunnel Number Two" was number one in much of Canada. ("Happy Birthday Son" was never released.)

Bob led his original "Dalton Gang" from 1968 to 1970. The only album they cut as a group was a "road album" of most requested songs. It was made to sell during performances, and was not released. Bob's own songs were released on the "Mega" label, and were recorded with studio musicians.
